I have never seen much ROI in Twitter anything, but I don’t understand why people are so up in arms about advertisements?

but I don’t understand why people are so up in arms about advertisements?

      (Speaking only for myself here.)

For a long time people did not have the option of escaping ads. We had platforms, like TV and magazines, where ads were just there and you couldn’t do anything about it.

Advertisers knew that they had a captive audience, and they started to produce sh*t ads manipulating people into buying terrible products. They knew they had the power to manipulate people, especially children, into getting hooked on whatever crap they were selling.

This led to the entire culture of consumerism and various health epidemics, where entire countries became unhealthy, obese, and cancer-ridden. I am not exaggerating. Simultaneously, we had all these “news” organizations giving us “news” that would never criticize corporate interests, opening the door for these companies to engage in even more harmful practices.

I do not want to go back to that. I do not want my Twitter feed, which I rely on for relevant and interesting news to become invaded with that bullshit again.

As the post says, Twitter can still do advertising, this is just a way to get them to offer at the very least, the option of paying to remove ads.

Much as I love Twitter as a user, I’ve given up on them doing any cool experiments :(
